MBABANE – “We are so disappointed.”

These were the words shared by Mbabane Swallows staunch supporter Muzi ‘Bondas’ Simelane and Mbabane Highlanders vocal loyalist Remix Maseko, who both shared with the publication their experience of a failed attempt to hitchhike from Mbabane, Eswatini, to Port Elizabeth, South Africa.  The duo hatched a plan and departed Eswatini on Thursday afternoon, with the intention of hitchiking to South Africa to watch Sihlangu compete in the ongoing Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup. Coach Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane and his team are currently in Port Elizabeth and their supporters attempted to attend the matches against Mozambique and Bafana Bafana. Unfortunately, the supporters’ efforts to travel to Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, were saddened when they were almost attacked by thugs in Richards Bay, which is approximately 1079.1km away from their destination.

The publication managed to reach out to the two supporters, who expressed their disappointment at their inability to attend the COSAFA Cup matches and show support to the national team players. They shared their frustrations over the financial constraints that prevented them from reaching their destination and fulfilling their goal of witnessing the matches live.

Disappointed

“I’m truly disappointed that our journey to support the national team was unsuccessful. One of the main reasons was that we encountered criminals at night, which frightened us. As a result, we decided to return home. Thankfully, we were able to hitchhike on a truck, which safely brought us back home,” revealed a dejected Simelane. With utmost respect, Maseko, the ‘Inkunzi Emnyama’ supporter humbly implores the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) to consider offering assistance to fans who desire to attend the Tuesday match.  “I humbly request the kind consideration of the EFA to aid fans who wish to be present at Tuesday’s game, so that they may show their support for the national team players and contribute to their morale and performance,” he said.
