PORT ELIZABETH – Sihlangu coach Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane has declared that the fate of their qualifying campaign rests squarely in their own hands.

Ntibane made these remarks, following a goalless draw against Mozambique,  this past Saturday, before a crowd of over 300 enthusiastic spectators. “We played well, and the boys executed the game plan to perfection, closing down our opponents tactically and successfully,” he said.  “The changes I made to the starting line-up were informed by our strategy, and we managed to limit our opponents’ chances.” He attributed his team’s inability to capitalise on their opportunities to a lack of composure in front of goal. “We failed to seize the moment when it mattered the most, missing several chances that could have changed the complexion of the game,” he lamented.

“However, we are aware of our shortcomings and are working to rectify them ahead of our next match against South Africa.”Meanwhile, Mozambique coach Chiquinho Conde lamented his team’s failure to capitalise on set pieces, which they dominated. “This youthful squad has a bright future ahead of them, and we’ll build upon this performance going into our final match,” he said. When asked about South Africa’s match against Botswana, which took place after theirs on Saturday, Conde expressed a surprising sentiment.v“I wish them to play to a draw, so that all teams have an equal chance of advancing to the semi-finals.” Indeed, as per Mozambican coach’s wish, the match between Bafana Bafana and Zebras ended in a goalless draw.
