FNB CHALLENGE PRE-QUALIFIER: JAMES CHAMP, E17K RICHER

NKONYENI – Professional golfer James Pennington walked away with the top prize after emerging as the winner of this year’s FNB Eswatini Challenge pre-qualifier played at Nkonyeni Golf Club yesterday.

Pennington emerged victorious in the Pro-Am competition, defeating 17 other professional golfers with an impressive score of 141. The tournament, played over two days under ideal weather conditions, saw Pennington outplay his opponents with strategic shots and a consistent putting game. His performance was rewarded with a substantial prize money of E17 000.
MJ Dlamini, Hanco Rodolph, and Thulani Mkhaliphi trailed closely behind with respective scores of 153, 154 and 157, taking the third, fourth and fifth positions in the tournament.

By virtue of being in the top five bracket, the professional golfers have qualified to represent Eswatini in the FNB Eswatini Challenge to be played in the same venue from July 27-29.
Other local professional golfers who earned spots in this month’s prestigious tournament were MJ Dlamini, Hanco Rudolph, and Thulani Mkhaliphi.Raymond Mathonsi and Oscar Dube qualified  through the order of merit. Mathonsi clinched a spot with a score of 159, while Dube followed close behind with a score of 158.  The Order of Merit system rewards consistent high-level performance over the course of the season, and these two players have demonstrated their skill and potential to compete at the next level.

Victory

Following his victory in the Pro-Am competition, Pennington expressed his happiness with his performance, stating that he was pleased with the win and looking forward to the upcoming tournament.  “Personally, I am delighted with my performance in the Pro-Am competition. I feel that I played very well, even though there were a few minor challenges along the way. However, I managed to overcome them and maintain my composure throughout the tournament. “To prepare for the main event, I plan to travel to South Africa and participate in the Sunshine Tour a week prior to the main tournament. “This will allow me to continue improving my skills and gain valuable experience before the big day,” he said.
