‘MARCELO’ LEADS SIHLANGU AGAINST BAFANA
PORT ELIZABETH – In the upcoming clash against Bafana Bafana today, the national team will be led by Green Mamba’s talented left back, Mcolisi ‘Marcelo’ Manana.
This decision comes as a result of the absence of Kwakhe Thwala, as confirmed by Interim Coach Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane. The former will be serving a one match ban after accumulating two yellow cards. Ntibane stated: “Yes, it is true that Thwala will miss tomorrow’s (today’s) clash against Bafana Bafana. In his absence, Manana will assume the role of captain.”
Although the absence of their captain is significant, Ntibane has expressed confidence in Manana’s leadership abilities. When questioned about the potential impact of Thwala’s absence, Ntibane acknowledged that Thwala was not only a great leader but also a skilled player. “We will miss his presence on the field. However, we have other players who can step up and fill his void. As a technical bench, we will assess the situation and determine who best fits into his position.”
Injury
Regarding injuries within the squad, Ntibane clarified that Nkosingiphile Shongwe was the only player who had suffered an injury, but has since made a full recovery. This leaves the team injury-free and in a positive mood ahead of the game against South Africa. When asked about the historical record of South Africa having defeated them three times in the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup, Ntibane dismissed the significance of past encounters. He emphasised that the Sihlangu team entered this tournament as underdogs, and their confidence remained unwavering as they prepare to face Bafana Bafana.
