MONDLI 2ND IN SA SOSAI KARATE

MBABANE – Sosai Kyokushin Karate of Eswatini proudly raised the national flag high at the South African National Championships.

Mondli Myanga, a blue belt holder under the guidance of Senpai Thulani Xaba, competed in the Under-60kg seniors division and secured an impressive second position in a riveting final bout against Khululekani Sibeko. The latter is under the leadership of the African Full Contact Karate Organisation (AFCKO) President, Shihan Thulani Sibisi of the Thokoza Dojo. The prestigious event was held at the Kibler Park Recreation Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa, in the past weekend. The remarkable competition brought together over 150 fighters from all the provinces of South Africa, as well as a team of 20 fighters from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe.

Eswatini, demonstrating their commitment to the martial arts, sent a delegation of eight karatekas to the championships. Among them, were six junior fighters, all under the age of 22, accompanied by a coach and a technical director, who represented the president of the association. “As an association, we are very proud of the experience and performance of our fighters. They showed great courage and discipline in the Tatami (the surface on which kumite and kata bouts take place),” expressed Sensei Mzwandile Ngwenya. Ngwenya further stated that, while celebrating their achievements, the team also acknowledged areas for improvement, aiming to return to future international competitions and bring home more accolades.

Funding

They extended their gratitude to the Eswatini Karate Federation (EKF) and the Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC) for their support in ensuring the team could honour the invitation through funding.Meanwhile, Myanga’s impressive track record includes securing first position in the 2024 AFCKO Tournament 60kg in Vosloorus, South Africa, following his second position at the same tournament in the previous year. Additionally, he achieved first position in the 2023 International Karate Organisation (IKO) Matsushima Tournament, which took place in Soweto.
