PORT ELIZABETH - Renowned SuperSport Presenter and Bafana Bafana legend Marks Maphonyane praised Eswatini’s players.

Maponyane’s remarks came during a post-match interview after the youthful Sihlangu squad pushed Bafana Bafana to the limit, ultimately succumbing to a 1-0 defeat. “Nuro, your team boasts an array of skillful players, showcasing individual brilliance. Your thoughts on this talented squad?” Maponyane asked, seeking Eswatini Coach Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane’s insight.
“Yes, we have an abundance of skilled players back home. This team is just a glimpse of the talent that Eswatini has to offer,” Ntibane replied.

When queried by SABC journalists about his plans for the team, Ntibane revealed, “We intend to retain 70 per cent of the squad and build upon it for upcoming tournaments like AFCON (Africa Cup of Nations) and World Cup qualifiers. The future looks promising, with only minor adjustments needed.” Despite exiting the tournament, Ntibane expressed pride in the team’s overall performance. Some of the skilled players who caught Maphonyane’s attention included Thubelihle Mavuso, Junior Magagula and Sizolwethu ‘Nunu’ Shabalala, among others.
Sihlangu recorded two draws and one loss in Group A, holding Botswana and Mozambique to goalless draws and narrowly losing to South Africa.
