‘BIRDS’, CRANES EDGE ILLOVO, SIDWASHINI

LOBAMBA –  The One Nation’s Cup preseason tournament saw Mbabane Swallows and visiting Blue Cranes beating Illovo and Sidwashini United, to set a dream final.

The pre-season tournament which was hosted by the CAF Champions League-bound Umkhonto KaShaka, was played at the Somhlolo National Stadium yesterday. In the first semi-finals 2023/24 MTN Premier League champions Swallows faced off with Lubombo-based side Illovo. The Caleb Ngwenya-led side edged Illovo 2-1 courtesy of national team Sihlangu skipper Kwakwe Thwala and Given Lukhele to book a place in the finals.

Meanwhile, Blue Cranes easily beat MTN Premier League-bound Sidwashini United 2-0. The South African side scored in the first 45 minutes to sail into the finals, which was won by Mbabane Swallows. The Nations Cup served as an opportunity for Mbabane Swallows to field several players who were being assessed for potential inclusion in the team’s roster. These players, including Bernard Ayikwei, Grace Musenga, Mayiboma Gazareka, and the former striker Mohammed Anus.
