MBABANE – The anticipation for the Ingwenyama Cup awards ceremony and the subsequent presentation of the highly sought-after prizes is scheduled to transpire before the close of July.

A source within the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) recently divulged to this publication that the coveted awards ceremony is anticipated to occur before the close of July. The impending Ingwenyama Cup awards ceremony follows in the footsteps of the recently held MTN Premier League awards, which were hosted with much fanfare at the Royal Villas in Ezulwini during a glittering ceremony last month. This auspicious event was attended by high-profile guests including the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Bongani Nzima, MTN Eswatini Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Wandile Mtshali as well as a number of prominent figures from the soccer fraternity. Former Mbabane Swallows midfield sensation Neliswa ‘Tiger’ Dlamini was the last player standing in the MTN Premier League. Following a remarkable campaign with champions Swallows, the new Nsingizini Hotspurs gifted box-to-box midfielder was named the Player of the Year to claim the E15 000 prize. His earnings shot up to E21 000, as he got an extra E6 000 for being named the May Player of the Month.

Awards

“The awards will be held this month on July 26, which will be on a Friday,” shared the source. Meanwhile, Green Mamba was crowned champions of the Ingwenyama Cup by His Majesty King Mswati III in April, in a game played at Somhlolo National Stadium, after beating three-time champions Mbabane Swallows. ‘Inyoka Eluhlazane’ scored their winning goal through experienced striker Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa. The Green Mamba marksman’s unanswered strike from the penalty spot ensured his side ascended to the podium to claim E1.4 million from the lucrative competition renowned for blending football with cultural festivities. Swallows received E530 000 runners-up as consolation. Interim Premier League of Eswatini CEO Patrick ‘Pat’ Vilakati could not be drawn for comment.
