RELIEF AS CAF PLAYER’S REGISTRATION EXTENDED

MBABANE – The Confederation of African football (CAF) has extended the player’s registration for 2024/25 Interclub Competitions until July 20, 2024.

Initially the deadline was set to be on July 16, however, the governing body has since extended the date by four days. Eswatini will be represented by the capital city giants, Mbabane Swallows and Nsingizini Hotspurs in the CAF champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, respectively. Mbabane Swallows, Public Relations Officer, (PRO), Knowledge ‘Bhambo’ Ngwenya mentioned that this is a good opportunity for the team to conclude their registration paperwork on time. However, he could not disclose the names of the players who are   registered so far.“The extension will give us enough time to complete the player’s registration on time, the registration is a long process, therefore, this will be good for the team to pull everything together before the newly-set deadline,” Ngwenya said.

Debut

Meanwhile, Hotspurs will make their debut in the CAF Confederation Cup in this year’s edition. They are also expected to complete the player’s registration before the deadline. The Shiselweni-based side recently signed former Mbabane swallows star, Neliswa ‘Tiger’ Dlamini and the former national team and Mbabane Highlanders shot-stopper, Khanyakwezwe Shabalala to strengthen their team ahead of the competition. The preliminary round of the tournament  will take place in August, and the group stages are set to take place between October and December 2024, while the knockout stages are scheduled to commence between March and  May 2025.
