MBABANE – The ‘MacPeace’ Netball Tournament is attracting interest from outside the country’s borders.

Latest updates suggest that six netball teams have confirmed their participation in the tournament. It was earlier reported that teams from neighbouring South Africa (SA) and Botswana are billed for the tournament.

Visiting

Four SA teams in Street kids, Rockstars, Pongola Stars and Johannesburg Intercity Netball Club (JINC) have since confirmed visiting the kingdom next weekend. Meanwhile, Notwane remains the lone Botswana side in this competition. Diverse Netball Lovers, Mbabane Raiders, Vixens, JINC, Gebeni and Qomintaba ladies form part of the female teams set to compete.
In the male category, Ballbusters, Illovo, Rockstars, Street kids, Pongola Stars and Street kids are some of the teams that have confirmed participation. ‘MacPeace’ is a nickname for Vixens Head Coach and assistant coach for national elite women’s team Mandisa Sihlongonyane. He is also a player of Green Lightening (formerly Correctional).

Thrilling

So the Vixens Netball Academy is set to host this thrilling two-day tournament. It aims to celebrate ‘MacPeace’ life, his birthday (July 22), and his remarkable contribution to developing the sport. The netball battles will be staged at OlympAfrica Centre, this coming weekend. Sihlongonyane confirmed that more teams would compete for the E5 000 championship prize.
“JINC, Vixens and Mbabane Masters have registered in the over 40 category. We are waiting for Correctional to confirm,” he said.

Categories

The tournament will feature three categories that include the elite women’s and men’s competitions, Winners in the elite categories will pocket E5 000. Runners-up will receive E3 000, while bronze medallists will walk away with E2 000. The over 40-year-old category will see winners getting E3 000 prize. The second and third place teams will not go home empty-handed, but will pocket E2 000 and E1 000, respectively. The ‘Orange Army,’ as Vixens males and females teams are nicknamed, are expected to also take part in this tournament.
