HOCKEY AFRICA CUP QUALIFIERS: MVALI THWALA SET FOR FIRST CAP
MBABANE – Mvali Thwala has emerged as one of the players to be watched in the Eswatini Hockey Women’s National team.
The Africa Cup Qualifiers in Harare, Zimbabwe, are just few weeks away. They take centre stage in the period August 17-24, 2024 and 10 teams will participate. At least five women’s national teams and the same number of men’s national teams, which are Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Malawi, Zambia and Namibia, are set to participate in the qualifiers.Eswatini Hockey Association (EHA) Head of Development Tinavo Mushavi revealed that the Eswatini Hockey Women’s National squad was united by passion, commitment and an unyielding spirit.
He said among the exceptional talents within this collective, Thwala emerges as the epitome of this resolute spirit. Mushavi stated that she was a precious gem meticulously nurtured and refined since the age of 10 through the association’s Long-Term Athlete Development initiative. “Now, after years of resolute dedication, she stands on the verge of earning her first international cap, a testament to the limitless possibilities that arise from hard work and perseverance,” said Mushavi.
He further mentioned that as the days drew closer, supporters were urged to rally behind Thwala and her teammates to be selected for the Africa Cup. He further stated that it was time to elevate their spirits and demonstrate support as they prepared to embark on their most significant challenge yet. The EHA head of development further expressed that dreams were not only realised on the playing field, but also within the hearts of those who dare to believe.
As the Africa Cup Qualifiers approach, the Eswatini Hockey Women’s National Squad stands poised to leave an indelible mark on the international stage as this will be their debut on the big stage, where they will hope to qualify for the first time for the Africa Cup. Tinavo also cited another exceptional player from the men’s squad, who is Ozayo Mamba. He stated that Mamba was a dynamic attacking midfielder for the Eswatini national hockey men’s team. “With the Africa Cup Qualifiers a few weeks out, Mamba might soon be making his much-anticipated debut. His superb off-the-ball movement and skill level set him apart. He is definitely a player to keep an eye on,” revealed Mushavi.
