FIVE EXCO MEMBERS VYING FOR PLE CHAIRMANSHIP
MBABANE – It is a five-horse for PLE hot seat.
The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Ethics Committee has publicly disclosed the list of nominated candidates for the upcoming Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) elections during a media briefing that took place yesterday at Sigwaca house in Mbabane. Marking a significant start in the Eswatini football calendar, PLE) elections are slated to take place on August 10, with five candidates vying for the coveted chairmanship seat.
Vying for the top position include, the current PLE Chairman, Mark Carmichael, who will face off fellow executive members. Carmichael, who is also the Chairman of Denver Sundowns, will face off against four other aspirants for the chairmanship role, in what is surely to be tightly-contested. Making her remarks on the selection process, EFA’s Ethics Committee Vice Chairman, Phumzile Thomo, outlined the various requirements that must be met by those vying for the PLE leadership positions.
Qualify
She stated that to qualify for the chairmanship, a candidate must have served as a PLE governor for at least two years and held an executive member position for an equivalent period of two years. The second best seat in the office will see six nominees competing, while eight candidates have been put forward for the executive member positions. “During the election process the Ethics Committee adhered to the PLE code of ethics and we made sure that the selected nominees do qualify for their various positions,” Thomo said.
According to the PLE constitution, current Chairman Carmichael, along with Polycarp Dlamini, Juluka Gamedze, Charles Matsebula, Sibusiso ‘Scorpion’ Nxumalo, Sithembiso ‘Ngudze’ Mamba, Victor Rodriguez, Bongani ‘Bhanyaza’ Mdluli, and Sicelo Mkhonta are all eligible to contend for the position, as they all meet the necessary criteria. Worth mentioning is that the selected candidates will have a chance to campaign for the elections for a period of two hours, which is between 10am to 12pm before the elections.
