MANZINI – His Majesty King Mswati III has called for more corporations to sponsor the Ingwenyama Cup tournament.

The King was addressing the nation at the Ingwenyama Cup sponsored by Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF) tournament gala dinner awards staged at Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre on Friday night. Applause was the order of the night as individuals ascended to the podium.  This is where they were awarded trophies and monetary prizes for showing their mettle in this tournament last season. “We do invite more corporate companies and businesses not to be left behind. With your support and buy-in, we can make this tournament even bigger. We are happy to share that we are currently in discussions with companies that are willing to support the Ingwenyama cup tournament,” His Majesty addressed.

It was earlier said that a revised sponsorship of a whopping E15 million was announced by the tournament patron at this same event. The money will be spread over three seasons, starting from the upcoming 2024/25 campaign. This is an increase of E3 million as compared to the previous editions. His Majesty further lauded those who made the last edition a success. “To all the teams, fans and members of the public we wish to say without your interest and participation, this would have not been possible. Even if you have not received a prize today, you are a winner for identifying yourselves with this big idea.”

Meanwhile, Ingwenyama Cup Chairperson Prince Hlangabeza shared the same sentiments. “The King had requested for the happiness of His nation. That was evident as the public attended in numbers despite unfavourable weather conditions. On the day of the semi-finals it was too hot, but the Somhlolo National Stadium was packed. It was the same case when finals were played regardless of the rain,” he said. SMVAF Chief Executive Officer (CEO) David Myeni said they were honoured to host the tournament. “Despite the tournament taking a break due to Covid-19, we can indicate a high level of excellency, passion and commitment both from the culture and soccer,” Myeni said.
