ORLANDO PIRATES DEHORN ‘BULL’, ‘BIRDS’ LOSE IN MOZAMBIQUE
MBABANE – Capital city giants Mbabane Highlanders suffered back-to-back defeats, as they faced Soweto giants Orlando Pirates in a training match, two days ago.
The match was staged at Sturrock Park in South Africa (SA). Inkunz’emnyama, as Highlanders are fondly known, suffered a 0-3 defeat in their first match. They further endured a 0-2 loss in their second match. Pirates’ trusted target man Tshegofatsho Mabasa fired a brace. In addition, Monnapule Saleng, Katlego Otladisa and Azola Matrose were also on target.
Notably, the Eswatini side had reportedly trained for only three days prior to the match.
The club’s official social media platforms confirmed these reports. This was their first international pre-season match ahead of the 2024/25 season. Pirates, on the other hand, were coming straight from two weeks training in Spain. Managing Director (MD) Chief Ally Kgomongwe officially unveiled the team’s new signings. These are former Denver Sundowns star player Siphamandla ‘24 Reasons’ Maseko and Innocent Adja with the Rangers duo of Sandile ‘Ghana’ Ngcamphalala and Mpilonhle ‘Loshy’ Khumalo. They purportedly made their debut during these matches.
Departure
This follows the departure of some players in goalkeeper Khanyakwezwe ‘Divers’ Shabalala, Mpendulo Tfomo and Pentjie Zulu, among others. Meanwhile, archrivals Mbabane Swallows also suffered a 0-3 defeat against Mozambican side Black Bulls yesterday. The match formed part of Umkhonto KaShaka’s pre-season matches ahead of their TotalEnergies Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League preliminary round set for next month.
