SIDWASHINI UNITED ‘ADOPT’ ELANGENI LADIES
MBABANE – Elangeni Ladies team have changed their name to Sidwashini United.
As part of the club licensing requirements, each team should register a women’s and Under-19s male team. The newly-promoted side, Sidwashini United, have since made a significant move by taking over the Elangeni Women’s team. The teams’ Chief Executive Director (CEO), Nontobeko Mbuyane, confirmed that there had been a name change from Elangeni Ladies to Sidwashini United. “The owner of Elangeni Ladies is a director at our club; hence he has changed the team’s name to Sidwashini United; we did not buy a status, it’s just a name change,’’ she said.
Worth mentioning is that, the Elangeni Ladies team were previously under Moneni Pirates for the 2021/2022 season. However, the Sea Robbers of Moneni’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Sibusiso Nkambule, mentioned that they decided to part ways with the ladies team and established their own women’s team for some undisclosed reasons. “As of last year, we were already independent; we registered our own team, since our agreement with Elangeni had ended during the 2022 season. The team competed in the Manzini Zonal League,” Nkambule stated. Meanwhile, Sidwashini United has issued an invitation to ladies who are willing to join the club to participate in the team’s training, which is held every Friday from 1pm to 4:30pm at the Police Sports Ground in Mbabane.
