MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders player Kenneth ‘Mashaba’ Moloto, has reportedly been released from the team, alongside other players, ahead of the start of the new MTN Premier League season.

The enterprising attacker from South Africa joined ‘Inkunzi Emnyama’ in the second round of the 2020/21 season. During his time with the club, Moloto demonstrated his ability to secure a position in the team’s talented midfield. However, his tenure was marked by a series of fluctuations in his form and fitness. The 29-year-old pacey midfielder joined the capital city giants from Ally Tigers, a team previously owned by Highlanders’ Managing Director Chief Ally Kgomongwe. However, recent reports from a reliable source within the club suggested that the player, along with defender Thami Zulu, departed the club due to contract expiration and non-renewal.

“Kenneth Moloto and Thami Zulu have officially parted ways with Mbabane Highlanders after their contracts with the club were not renewed. This development brings an end to the players’ respective tenures with the team, marking a turning point in their careers,” the source shared. Revealing further details, the source disclosed that former Royal Leopard player, who joined the Mbabane Highlanders squad in 2022, from Angolan club Sagrada Esperança, at an undisclosed fee, has yet to report to preseason training. This casts doubt on his future with the team, as the uncertainty surrounding his absence raises questions about his commitment to the club.

Rejoin

“Bonginkosi Dlamini has yet to rejoin his teammates for preseason training, while Sibusiso Tfwala returned to the Mbabane Highlanders squad yesterday afternoon,” the source shared.
Upon confirmation of his departure from the team, Moloto expressed his gratitude to the team’s supporters, who he described as wonderful and supportive throughout his tenure. Speaking with the publication, he acknowledged his exit from the team and bid farewell to the supporters. “As I reflect on my time with Mbabane Highlanders, I am filled with gratitude for the support and affection shown to me by everyone associated with the team, from the top management led by Ally Kgomongwe to my fellow players. While I do not wish to dwell on the reasons for my departure, I cherish the memories of my time with this incredible organisation and its passionate fans. It was a privilege to play for such a wonderful club, and I will always be thankful for the opportunity,” he shared.

Moloto continued to express his thoughts on his departure from Mbabane Highlanders, acknowledging that nothing in life lasted forever, including his time with the team. “Although I knew that my time with Highlanders would eventually come to an end, I am deeply touched by the warmth and love of my teammates, who treated me like a brother. While I may no longer be a player for the club, the memories of our shared experiences will stay with me forever,” Moloto shared.

Declined

Meanwhile, despite efforts to obtain a comment from Bonginkosi ‘Manyovu’ Dlamini, the player declined to speak on the matter. Furthermore, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Mbabane Highlanders, Kenneth Dlamini, was also unreachable. The publication sought to clarify the circumstances surrounding ‘Manyovo’s’ position at the club, given that he was signed as a marquee player, but had been plagued by injuries during his tenure with the team.

In a move to bolster their coaching staff, Highlanders have signed Mthunzi Ginindza and Christian Thwala to their technical team. Ginindza, who has previously served as the head coach of both Manzini Wanderers and Rangers, will lead the team’s technical bench, while Thwala, who has previously trained with the Manzini Sea Birds, will take on the role of physical trainer. The recruitment of these experienced and well-respected coaches represents a significant development for Highlanders, as they seek to strengthen their team and strategise for the upcoming season.
