‘PUPU’ OFF TO TANZANIA
MBABANE – “Pupu needs a new challenge away from Eswatini.”
These were the words of the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA)-accredited Agent Alimasi Bin Saleh, who is famously known as Adebayor in football circles. He was reacting to the proposed move of Mbabane Highlanders crowd-puller Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze to Tanzania. A source close to the former Mbabane Swallows midfielder revealed that he left the country for Tanzania together with Saleh, to be assessed by a team over there.
“Pupu is in Tanzania; he left with Adebayor,” the source said. The latest development on the former Polokwane City star was confirmed by the agent, who said the player was so comfortable in the country, yet he was capable of making it big in football. He revealed that he would be assessed by Tabora United as of today. “He needs a new challenge outside Eswatini. He is expected to arrive in Tanzania on Sunday (yesterday) as we are racing against time,” Saleh said.
He disclosed that Sikhondze was left with less than three days to impress at Tabora United, as the deadline for registration in Tanzania would be closed on Wednesday. He further said he was sure that ‘Pupu’ would make the grade at Tabora. “Pupu is still young and has many years left in him to achieve greater heights,” he added. Mbabane Highlanders Public Relations Officer (PRO) Kenneth Dlamini said this was novel to him, but was yet to get an update as he had been away. Meanwhile, Tabora United are a professional soccer team based in Tabora, a vibrant city in Tanzania. Established in 1985, the club have a rich history and are widely regarded as one of the most successful teams in the region.
