2 ‘BIRDS’ OFFICIALS REJECT DC APPOINTMENT

MBABANE – Two officials from Mbabane Swallows have strongly denied being part of the club’s recently-established Disciplinary Committee (DC).

They have sought to publicly distance themselves from any involvement in it. This publication reported yesterday that Mbabane Swallows Football Club (FC) management had suspended several members of the task team, which was reportedly formed by the faction under Chairperson Princess Lungile. There are two entities at Swallows - the football club and the company under the princess.

Suspensions

In addition to the announcement of the suspensions, Swallows’ team management under Acting President Absalom Ngwenya revealed the formation of DC, a development, which the club hoped would serve to safeguard the interests of its diverse array of stakeholders, including players, staff and supporters alike. Among the members of the newly-formed disciplinary committee tasked with preserving the integrity of Umkhonto KaShaka and their stakeholders,  is former Member of Parliament (MP) Robert Magongo who stands out as a prominent figure. In a dramatic turn of events, Starky Mvubu and Jabulani Simelane, two Swallows respected officials mistakenly identified as members of the newly-established disciplinary committee, came to the Times office to deny their involvement and sought a formal apology from Swallows.

The pair’s impassioned response to the inaccurate claims came as a startling contradiction to the widely-circulated reports, thrusting them into the spotlight of a deepening dispute with their club. A visibly aggrieved Mvubu stepped forth to decry the misinformation that had been making the rounds in the media, asserting his non-involvement in the newly-formed disciplinary committee despite reports to the contrary. “As a respected member of the Mbabane Swallows family, it is of paramount importance to me that my name not be sullied by false accusations and erroneous reports.

Wholeheartedly

“While I wholeheartedly support my club, I must insist that any future appointments to committees such as the disciplinary one be handled with the utmost care and transparency. To that end, I urge the club to issue a public apology for the confusion and clear my name of any association with the disciplinary committee. My reputation is of the utmost importance to me and I refuse to be dragged into any internal disputes within the club,” he said. In unison with Mvubu’s sentiment, Simelane voiced his staunch objection to the reports that had linked him with the newly-established disciplinary committee. He shared Mvubu’s concerns about the potential damage to their reputations, emphasised that they had no intention of becoming embroiled in the internal politics of the club. “Our names must be kept out of this,” he said.

Emphasising their neutrality in the swirling controversy that had enveloped their beloved club, Mvubu and Simelane were quick to point out that they were not seeking to align themselves with any particular faction within Mbabane Swallows. Instead, the pair stressed that their sole motivation in visiting the offices of the Times of Eswatini was to preserve their personal reputations and distance themselves from the claims that had suggested their involvement in the disciplinary committee. eanwhile, despite repeated attempts to elicit a response from Swallows’ Acting President Absalom Ngwenya, the club official declined to address the issue at hand, instead redirecting all questions to the chairman of the disciplinary committee, Robert Magongo.

Upon reaching out to Magongo, the newly-appointed chairman was quick to deny any involvement in the selection process of the committee members. “Speaking in my capacity as the chairman of the disciplinary committee, I can unequivocally state that I was not responsible for selecting any of the members of the committee. My appointment as the chairman was a decision made by the team management committee and I am not privy to the details of how they arrived at their selections,” he said.
