Meanwhile, during the WFA AGM, Chairman of the WFA, Bongikhosi Mhlanga mentioned that one key area in women’s football was awareness and development.
Junior
He further stated that the association was working tirelessly to expand women’s football throughout the country using the zonal programmes. “Having junior leagues for now may be expensive to the team; we are urging members to visit the zones to scout for better players,” said Mhlanga. The WFA Chairman further expressed that they were proud to have successfully established the zonal leagues in three regions, while they are still working tirelessly to cover the whole country. The chairman also mentioned that they were seeing more teams taking an interest in the zonal leagues, while revealing that football education was key in furthering knowledge in the sport. He stated that they applied and persuaded EFA to facilitate the long overdue training for coaches, administrators, team doctors and safe guarding officers. “Luckily we have successfully launched these training sessions and we urge members to attend these ongoing courses,” said the WFA chairman.
Unfortunate
In his closing remarks, the chairman said it was unfortunate that they did not have other tournaments in the concluded season, which was going to compliment the league.
Mhlanga, however, highlighted that the committee was working tirelessly in securing sponsors to accumulate more games.
On the other hand, the executive committee as mandated by the general assembly, successfully executed and presented the first edition of the zonal leagues season 2023.
WFA Secretary General (SG) Ntandoyenkosi Hlatshwayo, mentioned that they observed growth and consistency among the players. “We had a total number of 36 teams uprooted through this initiative, which could be of great benefit to our end product, which is the national league,” said the WFA SG.
