WE’LL GIVE IT OUR BEST SHOT – ‘BIRDS’ CALEB
MBABANE – They are up to the challenge.
Capital city giants Mbabane Swallows Coach Caleb ‘No Nonsense’ Ngwenya has assured that they will give their best effort in today’s TotalEnergies CAF Champions League clash against Clube Ferroviaro Da Beira of Mozambique. Ngwenya was speaking yesterday during the pre-match interviews at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium, where the game will be played. The kick-off time for the first leg of the preliminary round first round clash is set for 7pm, as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) 2024/25 interclub competition begins. “We want to assure our fans that we’re ready for this game and we’re going to give it our best shot,” the mentor said.
He further said that playing at this level was a huge challenge for his youthful squad. “We’re well aware that games at this level require major experience. Some of our boys are young and haven’t played on this stage. However, we are banking on the experience of our stars who are regulars in the national team Sihlangu that their experience will benefit the team,” Ngwenya said.
Injuries
At around 6pm, he mentioned that some of his players who were nursing injuries still had to undergo late fitness tests to determine their availability. He also expressed happiness that some of them had shown good recovery signs during a midday training session yesterday. Some of the stars who had to pass late fitness tests included Captain Kwakhe Tfwala, Bongi ‘Karas’ Magagula, Siphosethu Mabilisa and Leon Manyisa, among others. Emmanuel Owusu is another player who was left behind due to an injury. At the time of compiling this report, the opponents’ mentor Dauton Faquira was yet to make himself available for the pre-match interview.
