TYCOONS WANT AWAY GOAL RULE ABOLISHED
MBABANE – “I think this rule does not serve its purpose in Shiselweni.”
These were the words of Hlatikhulu Tycoons Management Committee (MC) Chairperson Sandile Masuku during the Shiselweni Regional Football Association (SRFA) Annual General Meeting (AGM), which was held at the King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium hall, this past weekend. Masuku said he made the submission that the SRFA Executive Committee should look at abolishing the away goal rule during the Eclipse SRFA Super League play-offs. The SRFA, like the Hhohho Regional Football Association, has two zones for their premier division. This means the champions from each of the leagues battle for the MTN National First Division spot in two-leg play-offs.
He said he saw no reasons for applying the away goal rule during the play-offs, as they were using the same venue during the games. “There is no away rule in one venue as it sometimes gives another team an advantage over the other, especially the club closest to the hosting stadium,” Masuku said.Masuku said in the Shiselweni, they were using the King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium for both the two-legged play-offs and according to him, it did not make sense. “I requested that they should look into this rule, as it is no longer serving the purpose, but I noticed that they are not interested,” he alleged.
Meanwhile, SRFA Chairperson Nkosinathi ‘Zoro’ Dlamini could not be reached for comment by the time this report was compiled. However, in a recent bulletin on Eswatini TV, he confirmed that the away goal issue was discussed at length during the meeting. It is worth mentioning that the HRFA uses the Prince of Wales Sports Ground for the Southern Zone champions as their home venue. In the Northern Zone, they use either the Killarney Sports Ground or the Mkhuzweni Technical Centre.
