MBABANE – A huge relief!

This is the story of the country’s TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup envoys Nsingizini Hotspurs, who are set to play their two-legged matches at the same venue, the state-of-the-art Moses Mabhida in Durban, South Africa. The back-to-back MoMo Cup champions will be welcoming Betway Premiership side Stellenbosch in the second-tier of  the continental inter-clubs competition at the 2010 FIFA World Cup venue, tomorrow. The Shiselweni-based MTN Premier League outfit secured the Moses Mabhida Stadium through their partnership with Amazulu to play their home game against ‘Stellies’ at the venue.

This is after the country was banned from hosting Confederation of African Football (CAF) category ‘A’ matches, which forced local teams as well as the national team Sihlangu to seek alternative venues from other countries such as Mozambique and South Africa. According to a statement released by Stellenbosch, the latter will now host their home games at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. “Stellenbosch Football Club can confirm the club regrettably play its home fixtures against Nsingizini Hotspurs on August 24, 2024 and Mamelodi Sundowns on September 1, 2024 away from our traditional home at the Danie Craven Stadium, and indeed outside the Western Cape,” reads the statement.

Relief

The statement went on to state that these fixtures would instead both be played at Moses Mabhida in Durban due to the unavailability of the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch, and the surrounding Athlone Stadium and the DHL Cape Town Stadium on the dates in question. This will come as a huge relief for the Nsingizini supporters as they will no longer pay over E1 000 for the trip to Cape Town in the second leg.Meanwhile, Insingizi Yezulu Public Relations Officer Sibusiso ‘Mnotfo’ Dlamini could not be reached as his phone was unreachable, as he was reportedly enroute to Durban by the time this report was compiled.
