GREEN LIGHTNING DIMINISH ROYAL FLAMES
MANZINI – Correctional netball team, who are now called Green Lighting, are the reigning champions of the 2024/25 preseason tournament.
It was a tough race in securing the top spot during the 2024/25 Netball pre-season tournament held yesterday at Zakhele Sports Ground. Green Lightning enjoyed a sweet revenge after humiliating their rivals Royal Eswatini Police Services (REPS) netball team with a scoreline of 13-11. Royal Flames started the game on a high note, especially in the first two quarters of the game. However, they eventually dropped as Green Lightning came hard on them. They dominated until the last quarter of the game.
About eight teams battled out in the court, with some teams getting eliminated along the race. The tournament was played in a round robin format. Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) Ladies got a bronze after defeating Vixens Ladies team with a score line of 10-15. Green Lightning Captain Ncobile Sithole said working on their mistakes helped them to recover and created more chances of scoring more points.
“It was a challenging game as always, but I am happy that we started the preseason on a good pace. What helped us in coming out victorious was substituting our goal defender (GD) as she seemed to be tired and brought it Ntenteza who played a role in heating up the game to work on our favour,” Sithole said.
Royal Flames Captain Bathabile Nkambule narrated that they were not fit enough for the game as they did not have more time to train. “I am happy about the results we got considering the number of days we trained. We lacked energy and made mistakes, but I believe we still have time to recover and do better since it is the start of the season,” Nkambule said.
