2025 ZONE IV CHAMPIONSHIP: ESWATINI GETS HOSTING RIGHTS

This is the story of the Eswatini Swimming Association (ESA) after they were granted the privilege of hosting the 2025 Africa Aquatics Zone IV Swimming and Open Water Swimming Championships. Last year’s swimming championships in Luanda, Angola, were an unmitigated success. Now the nation will have the privilege of hosting the 2025 edition of the championships, after this year’s event takes place in Namibia in December.
Eswatini Swimming Association Secretary General (SG) Nozipho Mahlalela confirmed to this publication that the association had been awarded the hosting rights for the 2025 Africa Aquatics Zone IV Swimming and Open Water Swimming Championships. Mahlalela expressed her excitement about the news and affirmed that this event was a significant achievement for the Eswatini swimming community.
She went on to share her enthusiasm for the prospect of hosting the 2025 championships, which she believes will be an unforgettable experience for all involved. “This is a momentous occasion for our swimming community and we are proud to have been entrusted with this honour. Moving forward, we will be consulting with other relevant parties, stakeholders and the ministry to discuss our plans for the event and ensure that we make the most of this unique opportunity,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Eswatini swimming team’s remarkable performance at last year’s swimming championships was a source of pride for the nation. The team returned home with a haul of 16 medals (nine gold, five silver and two bronze) and 22 personal best (PB) times. The team’s standout performer was undoubtedly Luca Fraser, who garnered a stunning 10 medals, leaving with a well-earned smile.
In addition to Luca’s achievements, 15-year-old Hayley Hoy also made waves, earning four medals (two gold and two silver) for Eswatini. Their exemplary efforts helped secure the nation’s place as a tough competitor in the world of swimming, further solidifying Eswatini’s reputation as a breeding ground for aquatic talent.The Africa Aquatics Zone IV Swimming Championships are an annual event that brings together swimmers from several African countries. Zone IV covers the following countries: Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
