SWALLOWS SET FOR MBOMBELA RETURN
MBABANE - CAF Champions League envoys Mbabane Swallows are looking to move from Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium to Mbombela Stadium, if they advance to the next stage.
Swallows used Mamelodi Sundowns’ fortress in Pretoria to host Clube Ferroviario de Beira from Mozambique in the first preliminary round of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) showpiece. Sundowns are the potential adversaries for the winner of the first preliminary round, with the local side currently leading 1-0 ahead of the return leg, on Sunday.
The decider will be played in Matola, Mozambique.
Availability
‘Birds’ Governor Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane said they were already hoping for the availability of the Mbombela Stadium. “We hope that once we triumph in this stage, we’ll be able to secure the Mbombela Stadium so that our fans would be able to travel to watch us closer from home,” the new Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) executive member said.He mentioned that it was a costly adventure, demanding sacrifice from their fans to watch them play outside the country. He cited travel costs, among other hurdles. For this coming weekend’s trip to Matola, fans are paying E310. It was E400 to Pretoria.
Going into Sunday’s game, Zwane said the game was like a cup final, highlighting that the fight was not over. He assured they would do everything within their power to win, adding that injured players were back in training. Notably, Sizolwethu ‘Nunu’ Shabalala and Bongi ‘Karas’ Magagula were forced out of the first leg clash by injuries, last Friday. ‘Beyond 2000’ was speaking on national radio, the Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS) on Monday.
Update
He was giving an update of their first leg experience. Public Relations Officer (PRO) Knowledge ‘Bhambo’ Ngwenya could not be drawn for real time updates on the injuries of the players. As the Caleb Ngwenya’s charges lead 1-0 ahead of the return leg, they need to at least avoid defeat by more than one goal. Scoring an away goal could be a bonus for them, as the CAF away-goal rule still stands.
