MBABANE - In a move that promises to boost Eswatini’s chances of success at the COSSASA Games, ESRC has generously provided E400 000 in funding to ESSA.

Team Eswatini, a squad comprised of talented young athletes from schools throughout the country, will set out on their journey to the Confederation of Schools Sports Association of Southern Africa (COSSASA) Games in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, tomorrow afternoon. The regional body is under the leadership of President Arthur Maphosa from Zimbabwe.

The Treasurer of the Eswatini Schools Sports Association (ESSA), Lucky Dlamini, in an interview yesterday, was pleased to officially confirm that ESSA had received a generous contribution of E400 000, from the Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC), to support the team’s participation in the COSSASA Games. Dlamini expressed gratitude for this valuable financial backing, noting that it would significantly enhance ESSA’s ability to compete in the upcoming games and make a strong impression on the international stage.
“I, on behalf of the entire association, express our deepest gratitude to the Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council for their outstanding contribution of E400 000.

The funds received will be used to cover various costs, including transportation, accommodation, registration fees, affiliation fees and other essential expenses associated with our team’s participation in this prestigious international competition,” he said. The ESSA treasurer extended his heartfelt thanks to the Ministry of Education and Training for generously providing two buses to transport the team during the games. “We are truly thankful to the Ministry of Education and Training for their support in providing us with two buses, a box truck and a car for our COSSASA Games.

“The provision of these vehicles not only eases our logistical challenges, but also demonstrates deep commitment from the ministry to the success of our athletes.“We are humbled by this exceptional generosity, and we hold it in the highest regard as we strive to represent our country with pride and excellence on the international stage,” he revealed. Continuing his string of acknowledgements, Dlamini extended his heartfelt appreciation to the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) for their charitable donation of 150 litres of water.

Support

“The generosity and support we have received thus far from various organisations and entities, such as the Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council, the Ministry of Education and Training, and the Swaziland National Association of Teachers, have been truly remarkable. “We sincerely thank these entities for their contributions, and we hope that their support inspires more companies to offer their assistance in any form,” Dlamini highlighted. Meanwhile, the Basketball Association of Eswatini (BASE) made an admirable gesture by providing a sports camp for the athletes at the beginning of this week.
