FOLLOWING SIGNING OF ANGOLA STAR: MANYISA, SA CHIEFS DEAL COLLAPSES
MBABANE – Move collapses.
This is the story of dashed hopes for highly sought-after Mbabane Swallows midfielder Leon ‘Schuster’ Manyisa, who was linked with a switch to Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs.
This publication reported last month that Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung was keeping a keen eye on the talented midfielder, after travelling to Eswatini to witness his exploits during the One Nations Cup pre-season tournament. The midfielder’s impressive performance caught Motaung’s attention, sparking initial interest from the Soweto giants.
According to sources close to Amakhosi, the latter’s technical bench was keen to give the Eswatini star a chance to prove himself.
According to latest developments, Manyisa’s move to Kaizer Chiefs has collapsed. This follows Amakhosi’s announcement of the signing of Angolan star Ignacio Miguel, who has put pen to paper on a three-year contract with the Soweto-based club. “Unfortunately, both Kaizer Chiefs and Manyisa ultimately pursued the acquisition of Ignacio Miguel instead,” the source said. Speaking openly during a farewell function held at Sigwaca House, the Green Mamba development player revealed the extent of his disappointment over the failed transfer to Kaizer Chiefs.
Strive
“It was undoubtedly a tough blow for me, but I am still young and will continue to strive for excellence, trusting in my abilities and giving my all to the game that I love,” he said.
Meanwhile, expressing his sympathy for the missed opportunity of Manyisa’s potential transfer to Kaizer Chiefs, Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane, the Swallows Governor, remained confident that this setback is not the end of the road for the young footballer’s career. “Leon Manyisa is among the many exceptional players that form the backbone of our team. As a club, we strive to provide our players with opportunities to play abroad, not just for the sake of the team’s success, but also for the betterment of their lives.
We encourage Manyisa to keep pushing himself and trust that his hard work will bear fruit,” Zwane said. Manyisa’s international football experience had begun to blossom with his stint at FC Van in Armenia. However, his journey was cut short when a planned transfer to Highlands Park fell through due to the club’s change of ownership, as it was sold to Tim Sukazi and eventually renamed TS Galaxy.
Threatens
The addition of Angolan midfielder Miguel to Kaizer Chiefs’ roster threatens to breach the Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) stipulated limit of five foreign players per team. As it stands, the club already has five international players in their ranks, namely the Burundian goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari (who joined from TS Galaxy in July), Botswana’s national team captain Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Mozambican defender Edmilson, Venezuelan international Edson Castillo and DR Congo’s winger Christian Sailie. According to the rules adopted in 2017, a PSL side can only have five foreign players.
