MBABANE – “Rest in peace Sibusiso ‘Boy Boy’ ‘Khushu Khushu’ Nyembe.”

These were the words of Bebeto Nyembe, the elder son among the four children of the late Moneni Pirates legendary striker Sibusiso ‘Boy Boy’ Nyembe, affectionately known as ‘Best’. The memorial service of the legend took place at the Mbabane Alliance Church, was attended by family members, football personal and over 300 mourners, who had gathered to pay their respects to the late footballer. The funeral service, paying homage to Nyembe’s life and legacy, will be held this morning at Mangweneni Cemetery in Mbabane.

Bebeto reflected on the profound impact that his father had on both his family and the nation. “We may not have the words to fully express the depth of our feelings, but we are consoled by the immense outpouring of love and respect that has been shown to him by those who knew and loved him. My father may be gone, but his legacy lives on, and for that, we are eternally grateful,” he said. In an emotional speech, he went on to share that his father, had always told him to be strong.

“Your presence here today is a testament to the immense impact that my father had on our community, our nation and our lives. Your support in these difficult times has given me strength, and I promise to do everything in my power to keep his legacy alive. From the bottom of my heart, thank you,” he said. Meanwhile, two of Nyembe’s former teammates at Moneni Pirates, Telephone Dlamini and Sipho Sibandze, shared their grief and disbelief at the untimely passing of their friend and colleague.

“As former teammates of the legendary Sibusiso Nyembe, Telephone Dlamini and I wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to his family, his loved ones, the Moneni Pirates community and the nation at large. The loss of such a beloved and respected figure has deeply saddened us, and we urge his fellow players from the past to come together in mourning,” Sibandze shared.

The memorial service, a sombre yet dignified affair, was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Sithembiso ‘Ngudze’ Mamba, Vice Chairman of the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE), and a cadre of former Moneni Pirates players, among them Christopher Tototo Khoza, Thulane Maya Hlandze, Sibusiso ‘Lollipop’ Hlandze and Justice ‘Fash’ Manyatsi. Also present were the current ‘Sea Robbers’, led by their captain Menzi ‘Gawzela’ Simelane.
