MBABANE – Shocker!
This old adage holds true for ambitious side Madlenya, who are currently without their Chairman, Juluka Gamedze, who is serving a jail term in South Africa. Gamedze is among 15 former employees implicated in the theft of gold-bearing material at the Sibanye-Stillwater metallurgical plant in Driefontein (Mpumalanga) and have each been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment without an option of a fine. The sentence was delivered at Oberholzer Magistrates Court outside Johannesburg, early this month. The said gold-bearing material was estimated to be worth more than E2 million.

Matter

Other convicts in the matter were identified as Nkosinathi Mdluli, Zamikhaya Zamikhaya Fihlani, Phillip Phalane Maleka, Sonny Mbongeni Mabuza, Thuso Elias Moshoeshoe, Armando Raymond Zitha, Amos Timothy Gumede, Sivuyile Rasta Mkhize, Nkosilungile Gibson Ntsimbi, Rowen Shadrack Ndou, Dumisani Enock Gumede, Malidane Abel Nhlebeya, Mphakatsi Mandule Mbhamali and Linge Mgzotheni. As per the judgment, they were sentenced for theft, illegal possession of unwrought precious metals and transportation and conveyance of unwrought precious metals. The matter was also extensively reported in South Africa’s media that include the TimesLive and Jacaranda FM, among others.

conviction

“We welcome the conviction and sentence in hope that the rogue elements in the mining sector will desist from being enablers to the illegal trade of precious metals,” Gauteng Hawks Head Godfrey Lebeya said.
Notably, Gamedze, who was a Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Executive Member until early this month, was a notable absentee during the recent special general meeting of the elite football office. The team was represented by Comfort Jele, who is the spokesperson. The latter was unreachable when sought for comment. It was reliably gathered that currently in charge of the team is long-serving Coach William Gamedze.
William is reportedly out of the country. He was yet to respond to a text sent to his phone by 7:36pm.“We have no communication from Madlenya regarding the matter,” was all PLE Chairman Polycarp Dlamini could say. This publication wanted to establish if there was a new representative for Madlenya in the PLE structures.
