‘WESLIANS’ COACH FOR SITSEBE
MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers Ladies team Head Coach, Bongani Makhukhula, is linked with the senior national women soccer team, Sitsebe.
A source close to the gaffer revealed that Makhukhula was earmarked by the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) to take up the hot seat at Sitsebe. The ladies national team are currently coached by Illovo’s Head Coach, Zwelibanzi ‘Botsotso’ Khoza. “The Wanderers Ladies coach is set to take over from Khoza after he was earmarked by EFA (Eswatini Football Association),” revealed the source. The source further highlighted that the Sitsebe job needed a coach who is aware of how each of the teams and outstanding players are performing in the domestic league dominated by Young Buffaloes.
It was also cited that some of the challenges in selecting a squad dominated by the domestic league’s powerhouse was part of the remedies to be looked into for a better performing squad.
On the other hand, when contacted on the Sitsebe post, Makhukhula highlighted that there was nothing that was formally communicated to him. EFA was also reached for comment on the matter, where the associations’ Marketing and Communications Manager, Muzi ‘Rhoo’ Radebe cited that his office was not aware of this.Looking at the most recent Confederation of African Football (CAF) TotalEnergies Women’s African Cup of Nations Qualifiers’ Sitsebe squad, which featured last year in September, there were 12 Young Buffaloes players.
Meanwhile, the squad only consisted of two players from Manzini Wanderers’ Ladies, while Nsingizini Hotspurs, Green Mamba and Mbabane Swallows had one player each.
It is worth noting that the ‘IziGirls’, as Wanderers Ladies are fondly known, head coach, is one of the most qualified women coaches under the Women Football Associations’ (WFA) National Football League.
Makhukhula is also currently the Under-17 Women’s National Team Coach, which is captained by one of his players, Lindiwe Jele. The Manzini Wanderers gaffer has been at the helm of the ladies squad for the past three seasons. For the past two seasons, his side has finished as runners-up to Young Buffaloes Ladies.
