MBABANE – Young Buffaloes Ladies’ sensational pair, Tenanile Ngcamphalala and Siphilisiwe Ndlovu, have made an indelible mark in the region. Ngcamphalala, who captains the side, continued with her scoring proficiency in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League Qualifiers. Buffaloes reached the semi-finals in the qualifiers that were played under the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) banner, this past week. The Eswatini duo was named in the best team of the tournament, following an influential role for the army side.
The Young Buffaloes Ladies captain was relentless and capped her impressive display with two goals. She was also returning with the team for a straight third time to the competition. Ngcamphalala scored her third goal of the tournament against Gaborone United, where it took her just 24 minutes to find the back of the net. Ndlovu, on the other hand, was on target against UD de Lichinga in their third fixture of the qualifiers. Ndlovu got off the mark as early as the eighth minute to put her side 1-0 up. She was back for her brace and second of the competition in the 85th minute, while it was a third for her side, as Celiwe Nkambule had slotted their second of the match five minutes after Ndlovu’s opener. Ndlovu, clearly having the game of her life, slotted the fourth and bagged a hat trick for her with one minute added after regulation time.

This performance took the Eswatini side to first position in their group with four points from three games played. The ladies side went on to clash with the University of Western Cape (UWC) in their semi-finals fixture. This marked the end of the road for Young Buffaloes, as they lost 6-0 to the side that finished ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies domestically.
Meanwhile, the Women Football Association’s (WFA) office, through the Chief Operations Officer (COO), Ntandoyenkosi Hlatshwayo congratulated the ladies for such a milestone in their careers.
“We are thrilled as the WFA because this is an indicator that women’s football in the country was taking shape,” she expressed. She further cited that more effort is needed in sourcing more sponsorship in order to give the ladies more game time domestically, mainly for their fitness and skills development.
