GOLD FOR ESWATINI IN REGION V DARTS CHAMPIONSHIPS

MATSAPHA – Eswatini Darts Youth National Team earned the country a gold medal in Region V championships, yesterday.
The team of Banele Mndzebele, Nkosephayo Dlamini, Sandziso Nhleko, Nontsikelelo Msibi, Mbali Sihlongonyane and Nompendulo Ndlela, played three rounds to be crowned winners in this category. Eswatini is hosting the regional showpiece at Esibayeni Lodge in Matsapha, from this past Tuesday until today.They clashed against Namibia, defeating their foes 11-5, two days ago. Furthermore, the locals won against Zimbabwe with a score of 9-8. The gold medal match against Botswana finished with a score of 10-6.

Meanwhile, the senior men had mixed fortunes. The men suffered defeats in two games and won one. The team comprised of big names. These are Friday Mncina, Flag Nxumalo, Ntokozo Makhanya, Sifiso Simelane, Bafana Nkambule, Senzo Fakudze and Elvis Shongwe.  They were off to a bad start, suffering a 9-27 loss againstZimbabwe. Eswatini nearly won against Namibia, with the visitors narrowly escaping by 17-19 in the second round. Furthermore, they cruised past Botswana with a score of 21-15 in round three. Botswana had a tough competition as they won by a point margin with a score of 8-9 against Eswatini in the senior women category. Eswatini suffered a 5-11 defeat when they clashed with Namibia.
The local veterans were unlucky following setbacks against Namibia and Botswana.

The games are set to conclude today with a prize presentation ceremony to be held later on this day. Eswatini National Darts Association (ENDA) Public Relations Officer (PRO) Nxumalo confirmed these results and lauded the performance showcased by the youth. “Seeing our youth prevail makes me feel at ease as I know the sport is in safe hands. When it comes to the other categories, the players should not be despair. There is always an opportunity to perform better with darts. Teams should take these experiences back to the league,” he said.
Five teams are in this kingdom for the exciting competition. These include South Africa (SA), Namibia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, and Botswana.
