E60K SALARY FOR SIHLANGU COACH
MBABANE – The appointed national team, Sihlangu, Head Coach Zdravko Logarusic, is reportedly set to earn double the salary of his predecessor, Dominic Kunene.
The Young Buffaloes gaffer, who led the national team from 2020 until the end of May this year, was estimated to have been paid E30 000 monthly. Reports, however, indicate that the new sheriff in town is likely to earn E62 417.67. According to an impeccable source, the Croatian-born coach had stated his salary preferences in his application as US$4 000, which equates to E75 000. “This salary is likely to be negotiated, which might see it go down to US$3 500 (E62 417.67). His salary preference was the main factor that saw him favoured, as he tabled a reasonable and affordable offer,” the source said.
The source also revealed that among the foreign coaches who were part of the over 100 candidates, one had an exorbitant salary demand. It is said that one European top mentor had tabled a US$10 000 salary, which converted to almost E180 000. Notably, this amount was almost double the previous pay rate the EFA had used for foreign coaches. Former Sihlangu’s South African Coach, Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba, earned E100 000. Notably, the PRO Licence holder said the national team project looked interesting, and this made him take it, as he was not in the country to make money. He said this during his unveiling on Friday. In addition to his salary, the new coach is expected to enjoy other benefits that come with an appointment as Sihlangu head coach.
This includes but is not limited to, a car and a house. The source also disclosed that European coaches also required to be subscribed to the sports coach insurance policy. Reached for confirmation of the said salary, EFA Marketing and Communication Officer, Muzi ‘Rhoo’ Radebe, declined to comment. “I’m not in a position to comment on that. You’d rather ask the coach himself, as what you are asking me is a personal thing. We don’t discuss the terms of our employees’ contracts publicly,” he said. Zdravko brings a wealth of experience, having worked across three continents. The 59-year-old, a PRO Licence holder, signed a two-year deal for the Sihlangu position. Former Sihlangu interim Coach Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane is his assistant. The previous assistant coaches were estimated to be paid E15 000.
