COSAFA U-20 CHAMPS IN MOZ
MBABANE – Revealed!
The Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) through the office of the Media Manager, Lynda Greeff, has announced the host nation for the Under-20 championship.
The COSAFA Under-20 Championship, which doubles as the TotalEnergies Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), was last hosted here in Eswatini, back in 2022. The games were played at the Somhlolo National Stadium and the Mavuso Sports Centre.
“The COSAFA Under-20 Championship will return in the 2024 to be staged in Maputo, Mozambique from September 26 to October 5, 2024,” reads the statement. COSAFA disclosed that this year’s edition would see 12 competing teams eying a place in the TotalEnergies Under-20 AFCON competition penned for next year. “Mozambique, who won the tournament in 2020, will be welcome hosts for the regional championship, with the top two from the COSAFA advancing to the continental finals,” the statement highlighted.
Groups
The 12 squads in the Under-20 draw will be split into three groups, each containing four sides, with the top team in each pool and the best placed runners-up advancing to the semi-finals.
The draw for the 2024 championships will take place in Maputo, tomorrow at 11am. It is worth mentioning that the draw for both the COSAFA Under-17 Championship and Women’s Under-17 Championship, which will also be hosted in Mozambique from December 5-15, will be conducted on the same day.
