Mbabane Swallows supporters are shattered by the demise of Mandla ‘Mapendane’ Malambe, a legendary supporter of Swallows. Widely known for his vibrant and creative fan art, Malambe was renowned for painting fellow supporters with elaborate designs during matches, earning him the affectionate nickname ‘Mapendane’ (painter). His absence from the sidelines this year was cause for concern among the Swallows faithful, and it was later revealed that he had been battling an undisclosed illness for some time before his untimely death.
The passing of the beloved Swallows supporter, who was known for his cheerful disposition in the stands, was confirmed by his family, yesterday. The sad news was confirmed by a family member, who was identified as Make Gwebu, who spoke on behalf of the family. She confirmed ‘Mapendane’ untimely death on behalf of the family, revealing that he had been unwell for some time prior to his demise. Additionally, it was earlier reported that arrangements were being made for his body to be transported to South Africa for further treatment before his passing. “I must say that I am at a loss for words to express the depth of our sorrow over the tragic passing of Mandla Malambe. This is a difficult time for us and we are still in the process of coming to terms with our loss.
“I cannot offer much information at this moment, but I can confirm that Mandla is no longer with us, and the impact of this loss is profoundly felt by our family. We ask for your understanding and respect during this sensitive time as we grapple with this devastating news.,” she said. When asked about the arrangements for his funeral, the grieving family member, conveyed that the family would reveal details in due course. She stated that, as a family, they were in the process of planning the logistics for the funeral service and were yet to finalise the necessary arrangements.
