JOSHAN SHINES IN SBS TOURNEY
MBABANE – Mhlume Tennis Club player Joshan Eziegbo clinched another trophy in the Swaziland Building Society (SBS) Juniors Tennis Tournament, this past Friday. The tournament, hosted by the Eswatini National Tennis Association (ENTA) saw Joshan attain the top position in the Under-14 category. He managed to beat Zwelethu Mkhonta for first place in the category, while Siyakha Mkoko sealed off third place. Eziegbo was recently on international duty, as he participated in the Under-12s International Tennis Federation (ITF)/ Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) South African Junior Teams qualifiers.

The tournament took place in Maputo, Mozambique, where Eziegbo represented Eswatini with two other tennis players, Phiwokuhle Nsibandze and Bantubonke Maseko. While the team crashed out in the finals, Eziegbo got notable victories in the singles category. Meanwhile, in the SBS Juniors Tennis Tournament, the Under-10 category had Mukelo Dlamini in first place. Nkosingivile Hlanze managed to get the runner-up position in the category, while it was Owakhe Maseko, who completed the top three of the Under-10 category. Furthermore, Maseko also proved why he is on the juniors’ national team squad, as he won the Under-12s category, finishing ahead of Kwanele Dlamini and Zizwe Mohapi, respectively.

The junior ladies also displayed outstanding performances in the tournament, with Amamtle Mngadi winning the Under-14 Girls category. Mngadi managed to outperform Unathi Shongwe and Sibusiswa Hlophe, in that order. Meanwhile, Junior Tennis Initiative (JTI) Youth Development Coordinator and Tennis Coach Njabulo Mbhamali mentioned that the playing level improved. He also expressed his gratitude to SBS for sponsoring the tournament as well as the ENTA for making it a success. He also cited the support from the parents as well as tennis lovers in general for making their way to the tournament in numbers. “We look forward to doing more tournaments for the juniors. We are also looking forward to the zonal tournament, which will be in January, next year,” he said. He also noted that they saw outstanding performances from both upcoming and new players.
