Veteran players shone in the inaugural 8Bet Trade Fair Cup. It was Young Buffaloes forward Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze who scored a brace to win the top goalscorer award with five goals. The 8Bet Trade Fair Cup Prize Presentation was staged at Mavuso Sports Centre immediately after the finale, yesterday.

“Winning the award motivates me to continue working hard,” Gamedze said. The former Sihlangu marksman walked away with E6 000. Meanwhile, Moneni Pirates Skipper and seasoned defender Menzi ‘Magawugawu’ Simelane was named Player of the Series. For showing his mettle, he bagged E8 000. In addition, Moneni Pirates goalkeeper Bernard Ayikwei secured E6 000 for showing exceptional saving skills. “It is a privilege to win this award. This is the first time I have been awarded, after six years in this country. I am winning it while making an official debut as a goalkeeper with Moneni Pirates and this shows that better things are coming,” he said. Young Buffaloes won big, as Head Coach Dominic Kunene walked away with E7 000 for being the best in this tournament. Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sandile Gwebu generated E4 000 for being the best Public Relations Officer (PRO). Furthermore, ‘Amathole’zinyathi’, as Buffaloes are affectionately known, defeated Moneni Pirates 2-0 to clinch a whopping E600 000 from the 8Bet-sponsored tournament.

Buffaloes had last lifted a knockout trophy when they clinched the Ingwenyama Cup title sponsored by Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF), back in 2019.
The runners-up, ‘Sea Robbers’, earned E300 000. Third place winners Nsingizini Hotspurs became E75 000 richer, while Rangers generated E25 000 for fourth position.
