MTN LEAGUE KICKS OFF THIS WEEKEND

MBABANE – Attention now turns to the league, following the conclusion of the 8Bet Trade Fair Cup.
This was confirmed by the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE), Pat Vilakati, during a national radio’s Sports Show programme, yesterday morning.The acting CEO stated that the league’s commencement will follow after the 8Bet Trade Fair Cup, as highlighted in their recent annual general meeting (AGM). “We can assure football enthusiasts that the league will kick off this weekend. Fans should check news platforms for the latest fixtures by the end of the day tomorrow (today),” Vilakati remarked.
He noted that the 8Bet Trade Fair Cup served as a litmus test for their preparedness to launch the league, encompassing teams, match officials and all stakeholders involved in the season.
He further indicated that fixtures would be arranged for both the elite league and the National First Division (NFD). “We can confirm that this season will feature 14 teams in the elite league. However, Manzini Wanderers, who have a pending case against Denver Sundowns, will not be scheduled until their case is resolved,” he added.

Wanderers’ case is currently before the High Court and is set to resume on September 18. They are contesting the eligibility of three Denver Sundowns players, whom they claim are defaulters due to lacking valid work permits at the time of the protest.Meanwhile, Prime Minister Russell Dlamini officially closed the Eswatini International Trade Fair (ETIF), football was part of the ETIF festivities in the period September 1-8, 2024 at Mavuso Sports Centre.“I would like to express our sincere gratitude to 8Bet for sponsoring this year’s Trade Fair Cup soccer tournament with a generous contribution of E2 million and for securing a long-term contract for the next three years. We congratulate Young Buffaloes for being crowned champions of this prestigious tournament.” Buffaloes triumphed over Moneni Pirates with a score of 2-0 in the 8Bet-sponsored tournament, earning a first prize of E600 000, while the runners-up received E300 000.
