MBABANE - Green Mamba and Manzini Sea Birds have suffered a blow, ahead of their opening games in the 2024/25 MTN Premier League season.
The side’s key players have been ruled out after being shown red cards during the recently-ended 8Bet Trade Fair Cup. Sea Birds attacker Mayibongwe ‘Suarez’ Mabuza was red-carded during their game against Rangers in the quarter-finals after he committed a dangerous foul. The game ended in favour of Rangers who won 8-7 after sudden death penalties.
Meanwhile, Green Mamba midfield maestro Khethokuhle Mkhontfo was sent off the pitch after colliding with Young Buffaloes marksman Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze. The goal-poacher was in turn rushed to the nearest hospital for further medical attention. In this match Buffaloes sealed a 6-4 victory after penalties. Inyok’eluhlazane Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mandla Sibiya confirmed he would miss their league opener. “We are aware of the rules,” he said. As per Article 11 in the 8Bet Trade Fair Cup Rules and Regulations, sent off players will automatically be suspended from partaking in their next match.
