EFA TO ADD MONITORING TOOLS FOR RC
MBABANE – “It’s an innovation to enhance refereeing.”
These were the words of the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi ‘Rhoo’ Radebe on the introduction of capturing video clips during elite league matches. This project is under the Referees Committee (RC) and was pioneered in the recently concluded 2024 8Bet Trade Fair Cup, which was won by Young Buffaloes last Sunday at the Mavuso Sports Centre.
Radebe said this idea was highlighted by the EFA President Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane during the local football mother body annual general meeting a few months back. He said to start monitoring the referees during games; the EFA bought one camera for the RC. “The RC currently has one camera, but if finances allow us we will add the tool so that they can monitor and analyse themselves. I can safely say that its am innovation to enhance their work as referees,” Radebe said.
Meanwhile, a member of the RC who commented on condition of anonymity said the project would be done in some of the league games. “We are definitely going to capture videos of the MTN Premier League games this weekend, starting with those to be played at the Mavuso Sports Centre,” the member said. He said the project funded by EFA would help them to assess the referees so that they could be able to analyse each of them and improve the refereeing standard in the country. “We are going to keep the recordings for reference sake and show the referees where to improve in their work,” he added.
