MBABANE – “I am looking forward to playing again.”

These were the words of Mbabane Swallows veteran striker Sandile ‘Shoeshine’ Hlatjwako after making a return to the Caleb Ngwenya-coached side. The former national team Sihlangu galloping forward was put on ice by the reigning champions after his contract expired on May 30, 2024. The red and white capital city giants, however, had a change of mind as they recalled the player ahead of their first MTN Premier League match against Ezulwini United next Wednesday at the King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium. This publication recently reported that the former Malanti Chiefs player was back into the ‘Birds’ nest, as he started training, this week.

It was reported that the lanky striker has penned a one-year contract with the league defending champions, who have a date with South Africa’s Betway Premiership side Mamelodi Sundowns in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League. The second leg match has been scheduled for the Lucas Moripe Stadium, later tomorrow. The former Tambankulu Callies (now Red Rhinos) player expressed his happiness on returning to the Kwakhe-Tfwala-captained outfit and was looking forward to returning to the field. “I’m looking forward to the season. I’m hoping for a great campaign,” Hlatjwako said. He said the reason he was hoping for a great 2024/25 season was due to the fact that they are defending champions.

“My personal target is to win other tournaments with the team,” ‘Shoeshine’ added. Meanwhile, the ‘Birds’ Public Relations Officer (PRO) Knowledge ‘Bhambo’ Ngwenya confirmed the return of Hlatjwako to the team, but was quick to highlight that he was not eligible to play in the CAF games, as the registration closed on August 30, 2024.
