MBABANE – The cruel hands of death have struck local football again.

This is after the sad news of the passing away of the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) employee Zwelethu ‘Thayela’ Magongo. A source close to the family revealed that ‘Thayela’ passed away at the Mbabane Government Hospital, on Wednesday evening. “We are really shocked about his passing as we were hoping that he would recover after he was admitted, a few days ago,” the source said. The source said he could not give full details on the death of ‘Thayela’, as this is a sensitive matter and it is his family that can comment.

‘Thayela’s father Jabulani Magongo confirmed the death of his son, which he described as  a shock. “Yes it’s true that my son is no more. We are shocked as a family.  “I knew that he was at work, only to receive a call that he was admitted to hospital,” Jabulani said. Magongo revealed that his son was admitted on Tuesday and they rushed to the hospital, only to find that the situation was bad. “He eventually died on Wednesday at around 5:15pm,” he added.

He further said they were yet to meet as a family to discuss the funeral logistics. ‘Thayela’, who worked in the transport department, might be laid to rest at Mpofu near Buhleni, next week.
Meanwhile, the EFA Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi ‘Rhoo’ Radebe confirmed the sad news. “The family of Zwelethu officially reported his death, but I can’t comment further,” Radebe said. ‘Thayela’ will be remembered as the national team, Sihlangu’s bus driver. He was once captured dancing in one of  the national team’s matches in South Africa.
