NSINGIZINI MAKING PROGRESS – COACH

SITEKI – Nsingizini Hotspurs Coach Alexio Sigion has expressed his satisfaction following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sisonkhe.

Sigion shared his thoughts during a post-match interview after witnessing his team stage a remarkable comeback to secure their first victory of the season at KaLanga Technical Centre, this past Sunday. Hotspurs equalised through Mavela Dlamini, who cancelled out Sisonkhe’s Simanga Shongwe’s opening goal, before former Maritzburg United striker Junior Zindoga netted the decisive goal late in the match.

“I wish to commend the boys for their relentless effort in securing this win. Our primary objective was to garner maximum points, and we achieved that. Additionally, we aim to play with purpose, building from the back and creating chances to score. I was pleased with the team’s cohesion, and we are making progress; it is a work in progress,” he stated. He acknowledged that Sisonkhe posed a significant challenge, noting that their style of play was difficult to decipher, particularly following their promotion. “Initially, we found ourselves trailing as we attempted to understand their tactics, since they were somewhat of a closed book. Once we deciphered their playing style, we managed to counter their strategy, forcing them to chase us for possession,” he elaborated.

Injury

Regarding the head injury to Wenzile Lushaba, he confirmed it was a concussion. Lushaba was promptly taken to Good Shepherd Hospital and was subsequently discharged the same day.
When asked if Lushaba’s injury disrupted their plans, Sigion explained that he introduced Ayanda Mayeyane, necessitating a reshuffle of positions within the team, which ultimately destabilised their performance. Meanwhile, Sisonkhe Coach Mbongiseni Mamba expressed his dissatisfaction with the officiating, but praised his team’s performance. “The team executed well. Our success stemmed from our ability to read the opponents and capitalise on their weaknesses.”

“I was discontented with the manner in which we conceded the first goal; our defence was exposed, leading to their equaliser due to poor marking. The second goal came as we were caught on a counter-attack, and although one of our players was down injured, the referee allowed play to continue. I feel this was unjust,” he remarked. Mamba concluded by expressing optimism for his team, stating that they only needed to refine a few aspects to perform well in their upcoming matches.
