ESWATINI GETS 4 MEDALS IN LESOTHO
MBABANE - They mean business.
This is the story of team Eswatini athletes who have won four medals in the ongoing Lesotho Games. A 19-member squad departed on Wednesday afternoon for the games from the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) offices at Lobamba. The games are set to end today. The Eswatini squad is participating in four different sporting codes.
This comes after an invitation from the Lesotho National Olympic Committee, in collaboration with the Lesotho Sports Council, which opted to host these games.
In the Taekwondo competitions, four Eswatini artists secured podium finishes, with Hlelo Vilakati fighting back to win a gold medal, while another competitor earned a bronze medal. Prince Mokoena also delivered a gold-winning performance in the Teqball singles and the doubles events played yesterday. On the Athletics front, Lihle Simelane bagged gold in the 400m, while Nokwethu Simelane achieved a commendable fourth position in both the 1 500m and 3 000m races. The male athletes demonstrated their endurance in the 100m race, with two of them making it to the finals and securing fourth and sixth positions respectively.
Meanwhile, the boxing competition is currently underway, with Eswatini’s competitors yet to enter the fray. They are expected to showcase their skills on the mat this evening and tomorrow. Overall, Eswatini’s athletes have put forth a valiant effort, earning several prestigious medals and ensuring their country’s presence is felt on the regional stage.
