NATCOM HONOURS MARATHON, NETBALL STARS
MBABANE – The National Commissioner (NatCOM) of Police, Vusi Manoma Masango, extended heartfelt congratulations to the athletes for their accomplishments across various sporting disciplines.
In a celebration of sporting achievements, the National Commissioner, convened a ceremony at the Police Academy in Matsapha, yesterday afternoon, to honour their top-performing athletes. Among the athletes recognised were the Royal Flames, which are Eswatini’s netball teams compromising of both male and female, that secured the number one spot at the recent Lesotho tournament, as well as the talented runners who took part in the highly-competitive 2024 Imbube Marathon at the Somhlolo National Stadium, two days ago. Standing out among the victors from the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) team were the dynamic duo, Mancoba Nhlabatsi and Samkelisiwe Tfwala, who jointly accumulated an impressive sum of E108 570 during the marathon.
Adding to the team’s triumphs, Nongcebo Mathabela also secured a bronze medal, pocketing E3 000 for her commendable performance. During his stirring speech, Masango issued a rallying cry to the athletes, urging them to defend the nation’s honour against the international athletes in the 2025 Imbube Marathon. “I want to express my utmost pride and congratulations on your outstanding performances in your various sporting disciplines. You have brought immense honour to the Royal Eswatini Police Service, and it is my sincere wish that you will carry this success forward into next year’s Imbube Marathon. Remember the source of your achievements and make wise investments, so that when you retire, you will have tangible proof of your victories,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Royal Flames, renowned for their expertise on the netball court, emerged as champions in the Lesotho Mounted Police Service International Netball Tournament ,last month, with the women’s team thrashing their opponents 58-21 and the men’s team claiming a decisive 30-7 victory in their respective finals. They also got rewarded with E10 000, bringing their total earning to E20 000 for both teams.
