MBABANE – Newly-appointed Sitsebe Coach Bongani Makhukhula is concerned about the level of fitness of his players.
The Manzini Wanderers Ladies Team head coach was reacting after the 2024 Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Women’s Championship draw, which was conducted early this week. Sitsebe have been drawn against the likes of seven-time winners South Africa, 2006 runners-up Namibia and debutants Seychelles in Group A of the annual women’s football flagship tournament.

Makhukhula said the challenge ahead of the games to be played in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, is that they will play without having kicked the ball. This is because the 2024/25 Eswatini Women’s Football League (EWFL) has not yet kicked off. “The things that will work against us is that we haven’t yet started our domestic league and also when you look at the rankings of the teams, it shows that the teams are stronger than us,” Makhukhula said. The coach also revealed that they are also concerned that they started preparations for the tournament very late. The squad, according to the Izi Girls mentor, went to full-time camp on Wednesday at Lobamba Technical Centre.Meanwhile, Sitsebe will kick off the tournament by welcoming debutant Seychelles in the tournament. The game has been penned to commence at 2pm and will act as a ‘curtain-raiser’ for the host nation, South Africa against Namibia at 5pm.
