MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders defender Melusi ‘Mega’ Magagula has opened up about the harrowing injury he sustained during a match against Royal Leopard a fortnight ago.
The talented player suffered a devastating injury during the match against ‘Ingwemabalabala’ at KaLanga Technical Centre, leaving his team and supporters reeling from shock and concern. Leopard won the MTN Premier League game over Highlanders with a 2-0 victory. In addition to suffering a demoralising loss, the Mbabane giants were dealt a crushing blow as their vibrant right-back, ‘Mega’, was taken to the hospital after sustaining a serious injury that affected his vision during the game. “The past few weeks have been trying times for both me and my family. As I continue to struggle with vision impairment caused by the injury, life has become increasingly challenging. Yet, amid these difficulties, I hold to my faith in God’s healing power and trust that He will guide me through this journey. My heart is filled with hope and determination as I strive to regain my strength and return to the sport I love,” he said.

The Green Mamba development player expressed heartfelt gratitude to all those who have shown him support during his recovery process, stating that their assistance has been invaluable to him as he navigates the road to rehabilitation. Meanwhile, as her son braves the road to recovery, his mother Lulu Mkhonta’s emotional interview conveyed her profound gratitude to both Royal Leopard Public Relations Officer (PRO) Frank Hurube and the Phalala Fund. In a moving display of appreciation, Mkhonta acknowledged Hurube’s support during these trying times and the Phalala Fund’s generous contribution towards the costly scan procedure.“In the midst of this challenging situation, I am overwhelmed with gratitude to the multitude of individuals who have shown their support and kindness towards my son. It would be difficult to acknowledge each person individually, but I must express my heartfelt thanks to Richard Mhlanga, the Welfare Officer at Leopard, Chief Ally Kgomongwe, the Mbabane Highlanders family, including the branches, Young Buffaloes, Bishop Kasaro and the general public for their compassionate prayers and well wishes. In my heart, I remain committed to my belief that the will of God shall prevail and my son’s recovery will be guided by His grace,” she said.

Leopard Public Relations Officer Frank Hurube pledged the club’s continued support for Magagula’s recovery, emphasising that their aim is to see the young footballer returning to the sport he loves.“We remain deeply saddened by Melusi Magagula’s terrible injury, but our faith in his recovery remains unshakable. In our hearts, we know that he will return to the pitch. We keep him in our prayers and hold on to the hope that his journey to recovery will lead him back to the sport he loves,” he said.

The righ-back underwent an MRI scan at Ekuphileni Clinic on Tuesday, a procedure that cost approximately E15 000. According to online sources, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a type of scan, that uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the inside of the body. With the results of the scan eagerly awaited, the specialist is scheduled to consult with Magagula today to provide a comprehensive analysis of the extent of the damage and the required steps for his rehabilitation. The clarity of this consultation will be pivotal in determining the player’s recovery process and future prospects in the sport.

insights

In the case of Magagula, who is experiencing vision impairment following his injury, an MRI scan of the eyes can provide valuable insights into the internal structure and function of the affected organs. The MRI can produce highly detailed images that can help the specialist identify any damage or abnormalities in the eye muscles, nerves, or other structures. By carefully analysing these images, the specialist can gain a comprehensive understanding of the injury’s impact, allowing them to develop a targeted treatment plan to restore vision and facilitate a full recovery for the player.
