5 CLEAN SHEETS FOR MALANTI’S ‘KHUNE’
MBABANE – Malanti Chiefs goalkeeper Bongiswa Dlamini, affectionately known as Khune, has kept clean sheets in all the games played by his team so far this season.
His latest triumph came during a fiercely-contested derby against rivals Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows, where Malanti Chiefs secured a narrow 1-0 victory, further solidifying their position at the top of the National First Division (NFD) standings. Dlamini’s outstanding performances in goal have been instrumental in his team’s success.
With a total of 11 points from five encounters, Malanti Chiefs are unbeaten. They have three wins and two draws.
Remarkably, they are the only team in the NFD that are yet to concede a goal this season, showcasing the strength of their backline and Dlamini’s exceptional shot-stopping abilities. As the season progresses, it is noteworthy to mention that while Malanti Chiefs dominate in the NFD, their counterparts in the MTN top flight league, the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE), are not far behind.
Competing
Mbabane Swallows, currently competing in the PLE, have also achieved an impressive feat by keeping four clean sheets in their first four matches. Dlamini’s outstanding form not only reflects his personal dedication but also underscores the collective effort of the Malanti Chiefs squad. As they continue to build momentum, Malanti Chiefs’ Public Relations Officer (PRO) Lungile Dube said they are intent on gaining promotion back to the PLE.
She went on to encourage Dlamini in continuing with such performances and how appreciative they are of his efforts in aligning with the clubs’ playing level as well as mandate to get the E50 000 first round carrot and ultimately return to the PLE. “Even last season in the 18 games he played, if I’m not mistaken, he produced more than 10 clean sheets. It’s just that goalkeepers are not really noticed,” she said.
She further mentioned that they started the season on a very positive note compared to previous seasons, where they would lose majority of the opening league games. “We need to try and maintain our pole position on the standings. We have been in the NFD for too long now,” revealed Dube.
