LONG WAIT FOR ‘NUNU’S RETURN
MBABANE – MTN Premier League defending champions Mbabane Swallows winger Sizolwethu ‘Nunu’ Shabalala will miss the epic clash against Green Mamba.
The Caleb Ngwenya-coached outfit’s unbeaten run in the 2024/25 campaign will come to the test when they face hoodoo team ‘Inyoka’eluhlazane’ in a tricky league game penned for Mavuso Sports Centre, on Saturday. This game will form part of the double-header scheduled for Saturday. It will be preceded by the clash between the rejuvenated Moneni Pirates and Young Buffaloes. Umkhonto KaShaka Public Relations Officer (PRO) Knowledge ‘Bhambo’ Ngwenya revealed that ‘Nunu’ will not be part of the team to play the Ernest Mavuso charges, in their quest to extend the 29-game unbeaten run in the league. Swallows last lost a league match at the hands of the Correctional Services side, when they walloped them with a 4-1 scoreline at the King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium on October 1, 2023.
“We are still waiting for the medical team’s update on Nunu’s injury, but what I know is that he is out of the match against Green Mamba,” Ngwenya said. The PRO said they are hopeful that the former national team attacker will be back in action soon. Ngwenya then invited the ‘Birds’ supporters to fill up Mavuso Sports Centre to watch them taking on the Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa-captained outfit. He further disclosed that Given Lukhele is recovering well as doctors are doing their best in taking care of the former Malanti Chiefs player in his recovery journey.
“He is recovering and we thank the nation as well as football supporters for the blood donation we requested as a team for the player,” he added. Meanwhile, Lukhele, who recently joined the red and white capital city giants, suffered a career-threatening injury after he was involved in a car accident, on his way from watching a game from the Mkhuzweni Technical Centre, two weeks ago. He lost his left arm after the accident.
