‘WESLIANS’ PLAYERS READY FOR ACTION
MBABANE – They are ready for any outcome.
These are Manzini Wanderers players, who are yet to kick a ball in an official match, apart from the 3-1 win over the national team, Sihlangu, in a practice match. The ‘Weslians’ flexed their muscles against the Zdravko Logarusic-coached squad ahead of Sihlangu’s back-to-back 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers against Mozambique. An impeccable source close to the maroon and white hub giants revealed that even though the players are slightly frustrated for not playing since the league started, they are hard at training in preparation of their first game in the 2024/25 season.
“I think the players are ready for any outcome in the ongoing case, but the spirit at training looks good and they are eager for action,” the source said. The source’s sentiments were echoed by the ‘Weslians’ Team Manager Elvis Dlamini, who confirmed that the players were training, preparing for their first official match. “The players are busy with their training and are psychologically prepared for the outcome of the case still in court,” Dlamini said. The Mlamuli ‘Mlaba’ Nkambule-captained outfit are currently involved in a relegation battle with hub rivals Denver Sundowns. They lodged a protest over Sundowns defender and Captain Jimoh Moses, alleging that he had no valid work permit in their relegation six-pointer match.
The game was played at Somhlolo National Stadium on May 19, 2024, and was won 4-2 by Sundowns. The matter is still pending in court as Moneni Pirates, Sundowns and Moses were expected to file their answering affidavits by the time this report was compiled. The answering affidavits are in reaction to Wanderers’ application for execution after High Court Judge Mumcy Dlamini’s order, who declared Moses as ineligible to play the contentious match. Judge Dlamini also ordered that the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) reviews and set aside the Appeals Board ruling. Meanwhile, the EFA have not yet implemented that order and this has made Wanderers to run back to court, demanding to play in the MTN Premier League.
